About me

Hi! My name is Hannah Smith, and I’m a freelance science writer based in the UK.

With a BSc with Honours in Animal Science and an MSc with Distinction in Molecular Biotechnology, my academic background grants me both a broad scope and specialised understanding of biological sciences, ranging from ecology and ethics to neuroscience and genetics.

Whilst both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees have taught me how to understand biology, I’ve also got over 10 years of narrative writing experience which allows me to write with a unique, reader-centric voice to ensure my content is engaging and easy to understand without compromising on scientific accuracy.

I’m early in my freelance practice, but I combine a strong academic background with a portfolio of engaging content and a genuine passion for science.

When I’m not listening to podcasts or reading up on the latest intriguing research discoveries, I enjoy writing and reading fiction stories, playing piano, and drawing. I find it important to maintain an active lifestyle away from the desk, which is why I love going for walks when the weather is nice (and swimming when it’s not).
